The junior struck out five before freshman Jimmy Reed came in to clean up the ninth.

The offensive support was constant and plentiful. Maryland scored in five innings, highlighted by a four-run third. The Terps amassed 14 hits in the game and stole seven bases. Brandon Padula continued his hot hitting, going 3-4 in the contest with a pair of RBI's and sacrifice fly. Five other Terps recorded multiple hit games.

With another big game, Padula has separated himself from the rest of the ACC field and leads the league in batting (.585). He is the only player who has hit more than he hasn't. Padula is 102 points ahead of N.C. State's Chris Schaeffer who is second in the league with a .483 average.

One more interesting note, with the seven stolen bases, Maryland leads the conference in that department with 31 on the season (41 attempts). The 31 success are more than any team has attempted in the ACC through Friday play.

Erik Bakich Coach's Show 03/01/2010

If you missed this week's show with Terps head coach Erik Bakich, or just want to listen to it again, here ya go! Just 30 minutes after dropping game one of a doubleheader 17-3 (this game was mind-boggling in its own right), they bounced back to defeat the Delaware Blue Hens 10-6.

The Terps offense came to life in the fifth inning and almost everyone got in on the act by the time the game was over. Only Tyler Bennett, the designated hitter, didn't reach base. As a team, though, offensively, it was a huge improvement over the past four games.

They busted out for six extra base hits, including three homers, highlighted by back-to-back jacks from Adam Kolarek and Matt Marquis (part of the four-run two-out rally in the fifth). The first five batters of the lineup went a combined 10-20 and Kolarek drove in four of the 10 runs the Terps scored. Head Coach Erik Bakich was quick to point out that was the difference in the game.

Some interesting notes from the game:

Both leadoff batters homered. Carlos Alanso wasted no time, taking the first pitch Eric Potter threw way out. David Poutier was much more patient and got a mistake over the plate after seeing what Nick Young had to offer.

After giving up three runs in the first, Potter settled in to go 4.2 innings, the longest outing by a Terrapin starter this year. He and Ian Schwalenberg combined to keep Delaware scoreless for the next SIX innings. The Blue Hens scored in the first TEN innings of the series.

Nine of the 10 runs scored were driven in... in game one Saturday, none of the three runs the Terps scored were driven in.

Maryland took six walks in the second game... they only took six in their first series.

Despite FOUR errors, three by Poutier at third (five on the year), the Terps won... the fourth error, catcher's interference by Jack Cleary. How often do we hear about that? Not often, but somehow he's managed to collect three on the year so far... he has to be approaching some kind of record? Otherwise, he looked good in game two blocking pitches in the dirt, helping out his pitchers.

Grand Theft College Park?

The Terps have stolen 11 bases in 15 attempts in their first five games, quite the clip. They are currently on pace to shatter their 1998 school record of 95 swiped bags. With 56 games scheduled this year, they are on pace for 123 stolen bases.

Tune in SUNDAY at 12:45 for the rubber match of this series on WMUCSPorts.com and check back here for quotes and photos from the weekend!

Don't Miss The Home Opener

It's the first post for the first home game of the 2010 schedule!
